Research in Motion no more

The name dropped for simply Blackberry.

If this was to be trusted, we might just see a revival. Remember I mentioned about how BB10 will be crucial, seems like they did themselves a big favour. Until I see the release and reviews, I'll just remain intrigued and somewhat tempted. ;)

The question now is, did they leave it too late?

In line with the recent fiasco that was happening elsewhere on the island, I believe the ruling party had outdone themselves once again with their white paper regarding population.

Running a country is different from running a corporation, which sadly is what the ruling party is doing at the moment. Monetizing every aspect. To be in politics is a desire to serve the public good, but sadly that sentiment has changed to one seeking a way to riches and relevant networking of private relationships. We can blame no one, power corrupts, as we all know it.

A lot of time it is not the case that married couples chose not to have kids, but they are being sensible(am referring to those who really are sensible) and realistic that they cannot afford. The housing issue alone is a big problem. Pegging the price of public housing to the resale market has made the cost of housing the number one problem for people looking to start a family. The relevant statutory board was started as an entity to provide affordable housing to the population, but it is anything but that now. Looking more like a public developer enjoying monopoly status selling housing at a private rate. Is that really necessary? Profits and growth provide the necessary motivation, but the only entity that is benefiting is the govt. Have we seen the returns being reinvested into the public? I don't think I've seen.

So who is the govt? The constitution? Or the ruling party in power? Those are two different entity. But in our city state the clear distinction between constitution and political party had long been mixed up. Because they have enjoyed uninterrupted longevity in power, we have long lacked an alternate voice which we can turn to. Looking at the larger countries that are often in political gridlock, we don't want that. But we want an alternative look at issues.

Inflation is happening everyday, the only item that isn't is your salary.

The king of the hill syndrome, the desire to be reigning forever; now the dare has been laid for voting them out of next, we shall see how the nation reacts. After all, irrationality is dangerous.

I'm not entirely sure everything makes sense or is relevant to one another because I'm feeling too full after that meal after that run.

Well the general consensus was that I really need to keep my hair short. Rofl.

Attended the first union of 2013, a few more to come. Before all else, congratulations my friend!

I reformatted my C drive at 0418h, just when I was about to get some work done. It greatly annoys me that I'm to lose all my browser bookmarks and music playlists for syncing. On the otherhand, it did prompt me to think about do I really need those bookmarks and stuff? I'm guessing what that mattered, I've already known. Starting with a clean slate can be a good thing. Especially when the regular backing up and storing of files on the other partitions come in handy.

That said, this little episode this morning pushed me a litter further towards the corner of the 27" iMac. Given that the sis took over the MBP full-time, eventually when this dies I will be more than glad to.

Been waking up feeling disturbed about the dreams these days. One of which last week involved a large pool and a largewaterfall at the same compound..

1000, 2000, 3000, CHECK!

Brought back some memories, we were taught to avoid the many mistakes committed during the course, but it is still lol-worthy to watch. As long as it ain't happening to you. Hahhahaa this is why a good strong exit is very important, especially that guy at 2:55 is DA BOMB.

I always have this sense of liberation after a haircut, like today. Especially if the conversation between my hairstylist and myself goes something like this:

HS: Wah your hair is so thick and straight, when was the last time you cut it?
Me: Erm, about 3 months ago?
HS: .... It is very thick.
Me: I know right. *Grin*

So it is short hair again, no more fighting with stubborn hair that refused to be styled. At least not for the next two months. *laughs*

Concoction of vile evil.

There was this night where I woke up @ 4 in the morning and ate this while watching the rain before going back to sleep. Emo much? ROFL.

Who killed Doctor Lucky?

This is very addictive.

A recent obsession with Japanese instant noodles.

This sure brought back loads of memories, the building that I spent a very enjoyable 4 years at. Which is now housing SJI.

Legacy

Where do I start?

The impending death of MSN Messenger? Or better known as Windows Live Messenger nowadays. Oh how that name was all the rage early last decade. It brought back memories simply by recalling that name. It was the days of mIRC, ICQ and the such.

The days of scripts in IRC that allowed for a less boring text in chat, though my pet peeve was that particular script that let you type in alternate upper/lower case letters. Hate. And of course not forgetting the popular channels for sharing files, *ahem, that is another tale for another day.

I'm actually logged into my ICQ account as I'm doing this. Yes I remember my account number, it is 107865683, and its password for that matter. The *uh oh* when there's a message, and that loud horn during the signing in. After speaking to a few friends, they still remember their ICQ numbers. Haha.

But all these came to change when MSN Messenger came. MSN was the dominant force before the emergence of smartphones. I clicked the icon that I've not touch for a long while. I didn't stay for long. I did the necessary merging of my account to Skype. Come 15th March 2013, Windows  Live Messenger will be no more. In this age of  IM apps like Whatsapp, it won't be missed by many for sure.

Took me a long time to actually complete this short post. Because as I was typing, random memories relating to the different phases all came rushing back as I scrolled through my contacts list. Mostly good, some bad, others a little silly that brought a huge grin. These legacy products that saw me through my growing up years, those same years that held memories that are dear.

Like how I didn't forget my icq number after all these years, some memories will always remain intact.

So here's one of those from that era. Fitting, you decide.

Started the year by falling ill. Hur. Took delivery of some items from the Singapore Mint for lunar new year. Very Chinese, but you know. Disclaimer, they are not mine exactly.

Radish
Gourd
Tangerine
Garlic
Tortoises
Bobbi.
Bid goodbye to a faithful pair that accompanied me across many roads

And brought back its replacement, albeit loud I admit.

Geeky Q&A

Have a good weekend.

Setting fire to the rain

Seemed to be hearing this song everywhere I went recently. Even on the airwaves. Somewhat addictive to listen to, some of the words.

I let it fall, my heart
And as it fell you rose to claim it
It was dark and I was over
Until you kissed my lips and you saved me

My hands, they're strong
But my knees were far too weak
To stand in your arms
Without falling to your feet

But there's a side to you
That I never knew, never knew
All the things you'd say
They were never true, never true
And the games you play
You would always win, always win

But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name!

When I lay with you
I could stay there
Close my eyes
Feel you here forever
You and me together
Nothing is better

'Cause there's a side to you
That I never knew, never knew
All the things you'd say
They were never true, never true
And the games you play
You would always win, always win

But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name

I set fire to the rain
And I threw us into the flames
Where it felt something die
'Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time

Sometimes I wake up by the door
That heart you caught must be waiting for you
Even now when we're already over
I can't help myself from looking for you

I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name

I set fire to the rain
And I threw us into the flames
Where it felt something die
'Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time, oh, oh

Oh no
Let it burn
Oh oh oh
Let it burn
Oh oh oh
Let it burn
Oh oh oh
The amazing bit about parents is that even if everyone else have given up hope on you, they don't. It was the assurance that I needed. Looking forward to a good 2013.

The 1st day of the year.

2012 can be classed as a year of renewal and changes.

I traded in the BB for a touchscreen phone, yes a touchscreen that I said I won't be caught using. Well the bb lasted me for a good 31months, the longest I've ever had for a phone. One change that was hastened by the change in the data plans.

I revisited the depths of the sea once again after a long hiatus. Didn't dive that frequently but the plans are underway for the next adventure in March. Restarted playing badminton again too.

Replaced my worn shoes and gotten some hole-y socks and started clocking longer distances again.

Met a generous share of ungracious locals, tried to play nice and be less critical. I admit I didn't fare that much better in the latter, well.

Diablo 3 launched amid fanfare, but it didn't quite provide the addiction like the past. Growing up priorities changed. While I'm at it, I had to deal with all kinds of weird dreams from hungry cats to zombies to trains and weird people sometimes in a supermarket.

Read two stories that could have been a lot nicer with a thicker plot. Namely the Fifty shades trilogy and 1Q84. Felt certain aspects of the stories had the potential to be developed further instead of simply being written off or left open ended.

Experimented with acupuncture for the first time on e foot. Pleasant experience considering that the problem got fixed, wasn't too bothered by the needles either.

Said goodbye to someone really dear in Oct, she should be in a better place now. Perhaps I'll see you again when I'm at the end of my journey, until then you'll always be remembered.

Revisited my wordpress for some off record posts.

Deafening heartbeats and the sound of silence in the night.

Cussing like a sailor as the clock struck 0000h on the 1st. What a way to start the year with.

Making no attempts at making resolutions that will remain unfulfilled, will take things as they come. e

Till then, it is 364 days to 2014.
